چکیده

When a cantilever beam rotates about an axis perpendicular to its neutral axis, its modal characteristics often vary significantly. If the geometric shape and the material property of the beam are given, the modal characteristic variations can be accurately estimated following a well-established analysis procedure employing assumed mode method or finite element method. In many practical design situations, however, some modal characteristics are usually specified as design requirements and the geometric shape that satisfies the requirements needs to be found. In the present study, certain modal characteristic requirements such as maximum or minimum slope natural frequency loci are specified and the geometric shapes that satisfy the requirements are obtained through an optimization procedure. r 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Influence of Temperature Change on Modal Analysis of Rotary Functionally Graded Nano-beam in Thermal Environment

The free vibration analysis of rotating functionally graded (FG) nano-beams under an in-plane thermal loading is provided for the first time in this paper. The formulation used is based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory through Hamilton’s principle and the small scale effect has been formulated using the Eringen elasticity theory. Then, they are solved by a generalized differential quadrature meth...

Shape Design Optimization of Unimorph Piezoelectric Cantilever Energy Harvester

The most promising method for micro scale energy scavenging is via vibration energy harvesting which converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. Using piezoelectric cantilevers is the most common method for vibration energy harvesting. Changing the shape of the cantilevers can lead to changing the generated output voltage and power. In this work vibration energy harvesting via piezoelectri...

Modal Testing and Finite Element Analysis of Crack Effects on Turbine Blades

The study of vibration response of a turbine blade helps to detect the crack presence in the blade which alters its dynamic characteristics. The change is characterized by changes in the modal parameters associated with natural frequencies. In this paper, study of vibration response is made for turbine blade in the presence of a crack like defect. Turbine blade is initially assumed as a cantile...

Numerical resolution of large deflections in cantilever beams by Bernstein spectral method and a convolution quadrature.

The mathematical modeling of the large deflections for the cantilever beams leads to a nonlinear differential equation with the mixed boundary conditions. Different numerical methods have been implemented by various authors for such problems. In this paper, two novel numerical techniques are investigated for the numerical simulation of the problem. The first is based on a spectral method utiliz...
